Every year, the province of Ourense celebrates one of the oldest forms of Entrudo. Over several days, they celebrate folións, farrapadas, corredoiros and baixadas confelos, cigarróns and pantalhas. These unique celebrations, illuminated with curls and accompanied by the bang of drums, are filmed engagingly in this documentary. The massive night scenes, with crowds, acquire a special meaning when they learn that this party took place at the end of February, just ten days before the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Galicia.

SESSION 2

15 OCT | 6:00 PM | PASSOS MANUEL

DOROTHÉ NA VILA / DOROTHÉ IN THE VILLAGE

ALEJANDRO GÁNDARA, OLAIA TUBÍO

2020 | SPAIN | DOC | 85'

Swiss ethnomusicologist DorothéSchubarth arrived in Galicia in the late 1970s in search of old songs that had disappeared in Central Europe. From this search came the 300 hours of recordings that make up the Cancioneiro Popular Galego, the largest collection of traditional music in the country today deposited in APOI-Museo do Pobo Galego. Forty years later, two girls embark on a journey following in Schubarth's footsteps to find the voices she has collected and discover their life stories. It is a journey in which the joy of singing again and the frustration of arriving late to know a world that has disappeared coexist. The film, which intimates with those behind the Galician Popular Songor, is a portrait that seeks not only the memory of Schubarth's journey but also collects its current footprints with the presence of protagonists such as the musician Richi Casás, whose grandparents were informants of the ethnomusicologist.
