Open Call Rules - Competitive Section

Deadlines and dates 2025

Submission period: December 18, 2024 to June 8, 2025 (00:00 GMT)
Selection notification: September 8, 2025
Festival dates: October 14-18, 2025

 

Themes and genres

– Documentary, experimental, fiction, or animation genres;
– Films using found footage;
– Family records and home movies;
– Self-portraits or works on identities;
– Films about intimacy, privacy, and family ties;
– Social or community panoramas;
– The family as an issue;
– Private spaces and familiar landscapes;

 

Conditions of admission

– Production date must not exceed three years;
– There is no limit on the length of the works;
– Each author/director is limited to submitting two works;

 

Registration


Registration must be done through the FilmFreeway platform.

The following information must be provided through the platform during the submission process:

– Synopsis (max. 250 words);
– 3 high-resolution photos of the film (minimum 300 dpi; jpeg);
– 1 poster of the film (if available);
– 1 photograph of the director;
– Director's biography (max. 250 words);
– Trailer (link);
– Link with password to view the film.

Submit

Notification

If the film is selected, the author/producer will be notified by email by September 30.
Authors/directors or producers will be contacted to send a version of the film in the highest quality possible. The film must be accompanied by the following:
- Letter of authorization for screening.

If the film is not selected, the author/producer will be notified via Filmfreeway by September 30.
Submission fees are non-refundable.
The Family Film Project is not obligated to provide feedback, comments, or justifications regarding the selection process. 

Submission Format


- DCP version + MOV or MP4 version (with PRORES or h264 compression, in maximum quality);
- Film subtitled in English (embedded subtitles).

 

Terms and Conditions


Excerpts from selected works may be used to promote the festival on TV, radio, or the internet.
Selected films may be included in extensions organized within the scope of the festival.
The festival does not pay screening fees for films selected for competition.
Submission of films to the FAMILY FILM PROJECT implies knowledge and acceptance of these rules.

 

Awards


The Family Film Project awards three main prizes to the films selected in the official competition, worth €1,200, €800, and €600.
