Sofia Sampaio

Sofia Sampaio is a researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Her research on the film collections of the Portuguese National Archive of Moving Images (ANIM). She has been a FLAD Professor and visiting lecturer at Brown University; a visiting researcher in the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV CPDOC), Rio de Janeiro; editor-in-chief of Aniki: Portuguese Journal of the Moving Image; and a jury member in several ethnographic film screenings (SIEF, APA, EASA). She is currently a member of the editorial board of NECSUS: European Journal of Media Studies and of the advisory board of Early Popular Visual Culture. She is President of the Portuguese Association of Moving Image Researchers (AIM).

 

Isabel Gomes

Isabel Gomes is a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art at the Colégio das Artes, University of Coimbra. She has directed several documentary films on artists, including Arte Vida / Vida Arte – Alberto Carneiro (2013), Rua José Escada – José Escada (2014), Pintar a Ideia – Manuel-Casimiro (2018), and Nikias Skapinakis: Portrait of an Absence (2024). In 2019, she curated the exhibition Da história das imagens (From the History of Images) at the Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Museum. Since 2024, she has been the programmer and moderator of Modos de Rever (Ways of Reviewing), a film series at the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira.

 

Peter Freund

Peter Freund is a Barcelona-based artist, writer, and curator. His projects routinely use appropriation as an instrument to cut conceptual holes in the fabric of historical memory and related enigmas. In recent years digital materiality has infiltrated his work amid a reconceptualization of the “archival”. Peter has exhibited in the Americas, Europe, Russia, Asia, and the Middle East. Since 2018, he has collaborated with various European art and research venues. Freund is Professor of Art at Saint Mary's College of California (USA), currently on leave.
