Jury statement by Alina Marazzi, António Costa and Cesário Alves:
First prize: THE BITTER APPLE FROM THE TREE, by Hana Kim (South Korea)
The jury decided to award this film because it addresses in an articulated manner the relationship of the director with her roots (her mother, her country and her memory) balancing emotional closeness and formal detachment within a poetic language.
Because there were a number of very good films in competition, featuring a wide variety of languages, the jury also decided to award honorable mentions to distinguish two other films:
