"An Unfinished Film, for My Daughter Somayeh" covers the ongoing struggles of the Mohammadi family with respect to the repatriation of their daughter back to Canada where they reside. The story is told through the eyes of the father, who was himself a faithful supporter of ‘Mojahedin_e Khalq’ (an Iranian political opposition group) for more than 30 years and as such he encouraged his daughter to join the cause and attend a training camp located in Iraq. Somayeh, his daughter, left for the camp at the tender age of 17, never to return home. Now after 30 years he begins to lose trust in organization, meanwhile his daughter starts to get promoted and she becomes one of the key figures of the organization, he is concerned about his daughter’s future so he decides to go to Iraq and find her. This is the story of a father who lost his daughter Somayeh to the cult and he believes that now she is some sort of hostage that she cannot understand, so he tries to rescue her from captivity in Iraq. "An Unfinished Film, for My Daughter Somayeh" is based on more than 500 hours of footage derived from the Mohammadi family videos covering 1992-2013.

Morteza Payeshenas (b. 1983) is an Iranian Documentary filmmaker, editor and photographer. He holds a master's degree in photography from the Art University. Payeshenas has completed various cinema training courses as well as master workshops at "Ravayat Fath Cinematic School" and "Karnameh Institute of Tehran". He has directed and edited many documentary films and has extensive experience in media advertising. His prize winning films have been shown in several festivals across the world. "An Unfinished Film, for My Daughter Somayeh" is his latest film based on more than 500 hours of footage from the Mohammadi family videos (1992-2013). The research, production and post-production of this film have taken six years to complete.
