Viktor, 5, is eager to demonstrate his latest magic trick to his grandparents when they visit for Christmas. His mother and grandmother think his performance will provide the perfect opportunity to ease the ever-present tension between the two men in the family. But Viktor’s father has taught him a trick involving fire and when it goes wrong, an escalation of the conflict seems inevitable. Surprisingly, rather than fan the flames, father and grandfather join forces to resolve the situation, much to Viktor's and the women's delight. Harmony has been restored. Apparently.

Annette Friedmann was born in 1969 in Sapporo, Japan. She studied Film & Media at the University of Pisa and Bologna and at the Konrad Wolf Film School at Potsdam-Babelsberg. She works as a scriptwriter and script doctor and also teaches scriptwriting in Berlin. "Dirty Tricks" marks her directorial debut.
