Someone said in a Wim Wenders film that “sometimes we have to move away from things so we can feel them”. However this distance from certain people and places seems to aggravate this state of absence, that ends up taking the form of something fated to the past. This is the bottom line for this film, where a man returns to his hometown, many years after a forced departure. He confronts his memories from childhood and from the past, he looks for the old faces and places, but seems that they’re not there anymore. The distance grows even more.

biografia

Fábio Penela was born in 1988, in Almada. He has a degree in Media Studies and worked as an intern at the Portuguese Cinematheque. He then attended the filmmaking course at Restart - Creativity, Arts and New Technologies Institute. He collaborates with MUBI, an online cinematheque associated with the Criterion Collection editions. After a few experimental projects with super8 format, he directed his first fiction short film, “Escala”, funded by the European Capital of Culture 2012 - Guimarães.
