Against the background of the collapse of the Soviet Union, and with it middle-aged men, STAINS portrays the difficult and silence filled relationship of a daughter with her alcoholic father, looking at it as a succession of mismatches on the scale of a both political and personal time. The jury intends with this prize to value the way the director articulates the intimate dimension with the public sphere.
